Dr. Scott Friedberg
Medical Detox for Opiate Addiction
You are finally ready...
Either you or a close loved one is struggling with an addiction to opiates - Heroin, Vicodin, Oxycontin, Percocet or other similar drugs, and now you are ready to change your life.
Suboxone - Buprenorphine, is a new FDA approved out-patient way to detox from opiates.
It can be done right here in the privacy of our office.
Is Suboxone right for me?
Buprenorphine - Suboxone, may be right for you although it is not right for everyone with an opiate addiction issue. This determination can only be made after a careful, thorough evaluation by Dr. Friedberg, who is Suboxone Certified to prescribe the medication.
Can Suboxone be prescribed out-patient?
In the past, in-patient detox would have required you to check-in to a program away from your family and miss work. You would stay overnight for a period of time at the hospital or treatment center dealing with the potential high cost of the hospital stay that may not covered by your insurance. After that, on-going medication based treatment, to assist in keeping you off the opiate, was limited. Suboxone is an approved medication for office-based, rapid out-patient detoxification from opiate addiction. This medication can allow people with narcotic dependence to continue their lives while taking steps towards living drug-free.
What about Methadone?
Prior to the Drug Addiction Treatment Act (DATA) of 2000, the only out-patient based treatment for opiate-addicted patients was Methadone, which is very addicting in and of itself, and must be obtained through specific government-sponsored treatment facilities.
The drug is effective in reducing cravings and in decreasing illegal drug-seeking behaviors. Unfortunately, Methadone is also addictive. Suboxone is used to allow people to discontinue Methadone therapy and return to a normal, productive life. Suboxone is also used with great success in detoxifying heroin addicts and allowing them to become productive members of society.
Can any physician prescribe Suboxone?
Special training and DEA authorization is required for a physician to offer office-based opiate detoxification using Suboxone. Dr. Friedberg has completed that training and is licensed to offer this treatment in his private office-based setting.
What are opiates?
Opiates are derived from the poppy seed and include methadone, heroin and a large class of prescription medications used for pain control.

Why choose Suboxone?
For the last few years, Suboxone has been available in the United States to assist in getting people addicted to opiates of ALL types (Heroin, Vicodin, Oxycontin, Percocet, Codeine and Others) opiate free. It is NOT a "magic pill" - just one part of an intergrated treatment approach. It is not only able to help with the initial detox; Suboxone might be able to help you stay off your drug for extended periods of time - many times for good. Best of all is that it can be prescribed right from a private physician's office like ours.
